DO GOOD WORK

So they said, "Let us rise up and build." Then they set their hands to this good work. (Nehemiah 2 : 18)

The borders that God establishes bring blessing to those who choose to honor them. One of the boundaries most in need of repair today is the broken border of marriage.

Biblical, God-honoring marriage between one man and one woman for a lifetime is under threat. The sacrificial love of which the Bible speaks, that inspires one person to give his life to another and to raise children in the fear of the Lord, has been forfeited. This breakdown of the family unit erodes the foundation for our future.

Great relationships require effort, practice, and intentionality. Good husbands, good wives, and good families are not born of luck. They are built by hard work.

For single people who desire to marry, you are working on your future relationship. Are you preparing to be a superb spouse? Or just hoping for the best? If you are a broken person before you marry, marriage will only further break down what is already broken. Wholeness is only found in Jesus.

For those who have been married for decades, be gracious enough to share how God has led you through the difficulties to find strong, peaceful marriages. You are surrounded by people who need help in the tough times. Make yourselves available to pray or have a conversation.

Let us commit to do good work in our marriages. Let us use words that encourage and build up. Let us cut away all bitterness and strife. Let us seek to love our spouses more than we love ourselves. Let us determine to strengthen these relationships that God has given to us. Let us rebuild the broken borders of our marriages. We’ve got work to do…good work.

Today's Blessing

Heavenly Father, thank You for the spouse that You have given to me. Help me do the good work required to build a strong marriage. Help me to grant forgiveness and show mercy. Help me always build up – never tear down. Help me love my spouse in the same way that You love me. In the name of Jesus… Amen.

CHILDREN OF THE KING

Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!(1 John 3:1)

One of God’s most loving and enduring blessings to us is the gift of family. Through faith, we become sons and daughters of God – adopted into a diverse and loving family!

Membership in His family assures many benefits. We are always – fully and without question – loved by our Father. He gave everything that He had to adopt us as His own. In the household of faith, we are surrounded by brothers and sisters who love us with deep affection. We no longer are lonely strangers; we are accepted and beloved.

These brothers and sisters pray for us to the finish line and celebrate our victories. They sit in the ashes with us when our hearts are broken. They gently admonish us when we wander off course. They offer hospitality and generosity when we are in need. They encourage us with songs, Scriptures, and wise words. We eat together, laugh together, grow together, and share our stories.

God's Gift of Family:
Love, Support, Unity and Belonging

And when differences arise? We extend the same grace to others that Jesus lavishly pours out to us. We do not provoke others to anger, and we are quick to forgive. We insist that peace ties us together.

We are not created to go it alone. We are gifts to one another from our Father Who knew that we would need each other’s encouragement and love. Together, we are the King’s children!

TODAY'S BLESSING

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. Thanks be to God for the rich and beautiful life that you have as a child of God! May your life be blessed by the family of believers. May you bless the family of God as you share the gifts He gives. In the name of Jesus… Amen.

INSULATE NOT ISOLATE

Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. (James 5 : 16)

Marriage can take its toll in wounds and scars. As two people learn to live together, pain is inevitably inflicted on one another.

When we are hurting, the temptation is to isolate ourselves from others. The reasons vary: protection against ongoing pain, embarrassment over our weakness, fear of rejection, even passive aggression.

Just as Nehemiah enlisted help to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, we must call on those we trust to help us rebuild the damaged walls in our marriages. We must insulate ourselves, surround our relationships with people we can count on to pray, encourage, and counsel us as we build our marriages and families.

Instead of pulling back and hiding alone, today’s verse admonishes us to confess our weaknesses to one another. When we agree together in prayer, our hurt is healed, and our brokenness is restored. The prayers of those who have gone through the battles, who have persevered through trials, and have come out victorious on the other side are powerful and effective.

When troubles come, do not fall into the trap of isolation. Instead, insulate your marriage with those who will assist you in the good work of building a strong relationship and family.

Today's Blessing

And now may the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. May God bless you and your spouse with those who will pray and encourage your relationship. He will protect you with His might and surround you with the wise counsel your marriage needs to thrive. In Jesus’ name… Amen.

UNDER OUR FEET

And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen. (Romans 16 : 20)

The apostle Peter warns us to “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). And Jesus uses strong language to let us know that this thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10).

Jesus contended with him when He walked this earth. After forty days of fasting, the tempter came to divert Jesus from His mission. In each circumstance, Jesus defeated him with the Word of God (Matthew 4:1-11). Little did Satan know that this battle was only an indication of things to come!

Satan thought that he was victorious at Calvary. When Jesus breathed His last and His body went into that cold, dark tomb, Satan believed that he had won. But he only struck His heel. Because three days later, Jesus crushed his head in defeat!

We are not ignorant of Satan’s devices (2 Corinthians 2:11), and we are not helpless in combating them either. That same Spirit that raised up Jesus from the dead? That Spirit lives in us! We are no longer slaves to sin and death (Romans 6:6). We are not subject to the wiles of Satan. We are more than conquerors through Him Who loved us! (Romans 8:37)

The head of Satan was crushed under the foot of Christ. Jesus is now Head over all. He has filled us to the brim with overcoming power. “And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all” (Ephesians 1:22-23).

Today's Blessing

Heavenly Father, thank You for the plan that You set in motion in the Garden. You knew we needed a Savior and a Deliverer. Help me to remember that I am not a slave to sin. I am not subject to Satan in any way. You have made me more than a conqueror! In the name of Jesus… Amen.
