Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. (James 5 : 16)
Marriage can take its toll in wounds and scars. As two people learn to live together, pain is inevitably inflicted on one another. When we are hurting, the temptation is to isolate ourselves from others. The reasons vary: protection against ongoing pain, embarrassment over our weakness, fear of rejection, even passive aggression.
Just as Nehemiah enlisted help to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, we must call on those we trust to help us rebuild the damaged walls in our marriages. We must insulate ourselves, surround our relationships with people we can count on to pray, encourage, and counsel us as we build our marriages and families.
Instead of pulling back and hiding alone, today’s verse admonishes us to confess our weaknesses to one another. When we agree together in prayer, our hurt is healed, and our brokenness is restored. The prayers of those who have gone through the battles, who have persevered through trials, and have come out victorious on the other side are powerful and effective.
When troubles come, do not fall into the trap of isolation. Instead, insulate your marriage with those who will assist you in the good work of building a strong relationship and family.
Today's Blessing
And now may the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. May God bless you and your spouse with those who will pray and encourage your relationship. He will protect you with His might and surround you with the wise counsel your marriage needs to thrive. In Jesus’ name… Amen.
