PASSION WEEK DAY FOUR (Washing Of Feet/Last Supper)

"Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.....He riseth from the supper, and laid aside his garments: and took a towel, and girded himself......and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded........" John 13:1-11

On the night before Jesus died, He was in the upper room with His disciples expressing His love for them. He washed their feet, spoke words of life and wisdom, and showed the ultimate picture of unconditional love. That evening, He shared one of the most important commandments found in John 13:34. He said, "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another." What do you think of when you hear the word love? What about when you think of God's love? In 1 Corinthians 13, we're given an outline of real, God-give love.

This kind of love is deeper than any emotion or a physical act. It says; "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." Isn't it amazing? That was the exact kind of love that Jesus demonstrated on the Cross as He gave Himself as a sacrifice so that we might forever live with Him in heaven.

In obedience beloved, as you begin your day, ask God to show you how to love those around you, just as He has loved you.. In John 14:15, Jesus says "If you love Me, keep My commandments." In other words, obey His commandments.

"And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased". Hebrews 13:16

There can be a misconception about obedience to God in Christianity today. Many hear the word "obedience" and think of it negatively, but obedience is a vital part of having a successful life with God. He doesn't ask us to be holy or never mess up; He just asks us to position our hearts to obedience.

This begins with reading the Scripture and comparing our own lives and hearts to the word of God. As we spend time with God, we desire more and more to be obedient, and in turn, we see His best for our lives. Let's ask ourselves: Where am I being disobedient right now? Is there an area of my life that God is asking me to be obedient in? The more obedient we are, the more we become like Him. He honors our obedience - He has the best in mind for us!
